There are so many myths floating around about nutrition and a lot of them revolve around the concept of deprivation (perhaps the most prevalent one being the notion of ‘calorie in, calorie out’). There are a lot of problems with this approach scientifically speaking, but even more than that is the notion that in order to be healthy we HAVE to be suffering. It’s just not true!
So clear your programming because I am going to share a thought that might just change everything.
At every bite we are either giving our bodies more vitality, or less. There is no ‘balance point’ when it comes to nourishing ourselves.
I don’t say this to suggest that you need to be ‘perfect’ all the time. There are truly benefits to indulging in occasional, meaningful ways and it is not worth feeling guilty. However, this shift from calorie counting to consuming high quality foods is a biggie and it is often ignored! So ready for your new ‘rule to live by?’
If you truly want to make better habits, make sure you spend more time sorting out the good ones you are going to start rather than focusing on the ones you hope to leave behind. You’ll be surprised how quickly things can shift.
What do you think? Have you tried this ‘crowding out’ approach in making healthier choices in your life? I’d love to hear about it! Please add your thoughts to the comments below. And as always, please feel free to pass this on to anybody who needs a little inspiration!
